the rags to riches of $3 ramen spoons.
Tasked to go out and find a thrift store item to create branding and packaging for, I found a set of ramen spoons for $3. What a find! Thus Ren Ge was created.
Ren Ge sells premium ramen spoons. The set featured here is "Koi no Taki" (English pronunciation for "koi waterfall" in Japanese.)
It is inspired by the tale of hundreds of koi swimming upstream the Yellow River in China. After hundreds of years of jumping one koi finally jumped over the top of the waterfall. The gods recognized the koi for its perseverance and determination and turned it into a golden dragon.

The packaging and booklet design is inspired by waterfalls and origami.
The booklet style is referred to as a waterfall card. Pages flip up and down as you read the pages. When closed the pages resemble stylized fish scales.
The spoons lay on paper folded using the Miura Fold which sets the spoons at an angle for a unique display. This gives the effect that koi on the spoons are attempting to swim up a waterfall.
Text and details on packaging were laser-engraved on premium watercolor paper, providing beautiful texture and contrast.
